Knežak lies on the southern edge of a karst field in Upper Pivka and at an important transition from the Snežnik forests and the Pivka to the Reka Valley. The remains of Kalc Castle, with a round tower and a lime-tree avenue, are located near Knežak. The poet, composer and politician Miroslav Vilhar lived there. Two concerts of the Primorska poje choral revue are traditionally reserved for Jasen and Knežak. The traditional Christmas concert in Knežak takes place in a festively decorated church and brings numerous visitors together through music and spoken word.
