Dol pri Hrastniku showcases, within a compact thematic area, the full range from protected natural areas and sporting experiences to sacred architecture and vibrant local culture. Elevations of over 950 metres, walking trails with wide-ranging views, a climbing area with 44 routes and regularly held events give the place a variety of distinct character.

Nature

Kopitnik encompasses rare and endangered habitat types and is part of the Natura 2000 network. At the same time, Kopitnik is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. The Gore area has a dense network of walking trails offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills and the Sava Valley. The Gore area is also suitable for excursions and picnics. Planinski dom Gore is a checkpoint on the Zasavska Trail.

Kalska planota lies at an elevation of over 950 metres and provides shelter for numerous plant and animal species. It is a starting point for various hikes towards Mrzlica and Šmohor. The plateau therefore places both its elevation and its plant and animal life at the centre of attention.

The Pod Škalo climbing area is another prominent attraction in Dol pri Hrastniku. It is visited by Slovenian and foreign professional and recreational climbers. The 44 climbing routes are suitable for both beginners and more experienced climbers.

Another specific starting point is the car park in front of the Dolanka sports hall in Dol: this is where the Sovretov pohod begins, a hike that takes approximately one and a half hours.

Culture

The Church of St James stands in the centre of Dol pri Hrastniku at an elevation of approximately 310 metres. The ambitiously designed Neo-Romanesque building has a cruciform floor plan and a fully vaulted interior.

Cultural activities take place in the cultural centre of Dol pri Hrastniku. The local community celebrates its holiday on 28 June in memory of the founding of the OF in Dol. Both places provide a distinctive setting for local cultural life.

Events

Dolanka sports hall is available to schools, clubs and sports enthusiasts, as well as for competitions and events. The large car park at the sports hall also serves as a venue for Dolska noč, the Kramarski sejem and the traditional blessing of motorcycles and motorcyclists.

Dolska noč takes place every year in the centre of Dol pri Hrastniku; in recent years, it has been held in front of Dolanka sports hall. On the last Saturday in June, locals meet to enjoy food, drinks and music. The Kramarski sejem takes place every year on 10 March, Martyrs’ Day, in the courtyard and car park in front of Dolanka sports hall in Dol pri Hrastniku. Dry goods, dried fruit, clothing and seedlings can be purchased there. The annual blessing of motorcycles and motorcyclists also takes place in the car park in front of Dolanka sports hall.
