Holiday apartment in Krakovany: Manor House, Lace and Folklore
Krakovany Château is a historic manor house dating from 1736. Wines from its own production are served for tasting in the manor house’s historic cellar. The château produces wine from grapes grown in its own vineyards and makes the wine in the manor house. This brings together the history of the house and the individual stages of wine production in the same building: its own vineyards, processing and tasting are among the château’s notable features.
Culture and History
The Holeška stream flows through Krakovany. Traces of settlement dating from the Neolithic period have been found in the municipality of Krakovany. The Baroque Church of Saint Nicholas of Myra in Krakovany was built between 1770 and 1773 on the site of an older church dating from 1702. This building therefore reflects several historical dates: the older church from 1702, its replacement in the 18th century, and the Baroque church built between 1770 and 1773 are all part of the history of the village.
In Stráže, a district of Krakovany, there are two richly furnished princely tombs of Germanic princes from the Late Roman Imperial period. A burial ground dating from the Migration Period was discovered in the Stráže brickworks. The Church of Saint Gallus in Stráže is a Gothic church; the churchyard contains stone gravestones from the 17th and 18th centuries. Stráže is also home to a water mill dating from the 17th century. These monuments thus range from the princely tombs and the burial ground to the Gothic church, churchyard, water mill and stone gravestones.
Crafts and Museum
Lace from Krakovany is made using five bobbins, is colorful and is considered unique in the world. Lace-making in Krakovany is done by bobbin lace-making and embroidery; it is presented on various occasions, at exhibitions and abroad. The craft is therefore characterized both by the two techniques mentioned and by its presentation in different places and on different occasions.
The museum in Krakovany has an extensive collection of traditional costumes and displays everyday objects that were formerly used in the garden, in the fields and in the kitchen. The exhibition therefore includes both clothing and objects from three historical areas of work and daily life: the garden, the fields and the kitchen. Together with the lace, these collections represent traditional forms of crafts, clothing and everyday life that can be seen in Krakovany.
Folklore and Events
A program full of traditions, music and dance was planned for the 58th Krakovany Folklore Festival from June 26 to 28, 2026. It was scheduled to take place in the amphitheater and the cultural center on Fridays and Saturdays, and only in the museum on Sundays. The three event days were therefore assigned to different locations, with Sunday reserved for the museum.
