Nitrianske Rudno combines the Nitrianske Rudno Reservoir with marked trails, protected nature and regional culture. Between the waterscape, forests, rock formations and traces of history, there are various ways to enjoy a stay, from summer activities to insights into the traditions of the Rudnianska Valley.
Water
A 1,330 m-long nature trail runs along the existing boundary of the Nitrianske Rudno Reservoir. It is intended for ordinary visitors. The information panels along the trail provide information about bodies of water, the climate, the history of the municipality and the reservoir's special features. The recreational area includes a public beach area and a car camping site with additional facilities.
During the summer months, the reservoir is used for recreation and for sport fishing during the fishing seasons. Swimming and water sports are also possible there in summer. The reservoir also provides space for cultural events, concerts and car and motorcycle gatherings.
Nature
The cadastral area of Nitrianske Rudno includes the Rokoš National Nature Reserve. Since 1974, the protected area has been subject to the highest, fifth level of nature protection. Rokoš is the only place in the Western Carpathians where Scots pine and downy oak grow simultaneously; as a result, montane and xerothermic vegetation overlap there.
A hiking trail in Nitrianske Rudno leads through beech, pine and oak forests as well as meadows. Along the way, it passes rock formations and offers views of the Rudnianska Valley.
Trails
From Nitrianske Rudno, three marked hiking trails lead to Košútova skala and Rokoš, Čierny vrch and Boškovie laz. There is also a marked connection for mountain biking: the green-marked Rokošská radiála MTB route, number 5317, is 25.6 km long and runs along asphalt, paved tracks and forest roads.
The Rokošská radiála leads to the Nitrianske Rudno Reservoir and then continues through Nitrianske Rudno. Thus, within the trails described, both the lake and the village itself are on the same route.
Culture
The Roman Catholic church in Nitrianske Rudno was built between 1804 and 1816 on the site of a wooden church destroyed by fire. It is a single-nave church with a straight-ended apse and no presbytery separated from the nave. In the Horná Nitra region, it is one of the few churches with a straight-ended apse.
A monument to Fraňa Madva, erected in 1925, stands in the church grounds. Numerous smaller and larger cultural events take place in Nitrianske Rudno every year. The diverse cultural and social events organized by the municipality include the Rudnianske Days.
Regional culture also includes a folk music group that performs songs from Upper Nitra and focuses particularly on the Rudnianska Valley, from which all its members come. The group has taken part in several folklore festivals and received the Samko Dudík Award at the MFF Myjava in 2016.
