The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary stands on a rise in the eastern part of Pečeňany. It is a modern church building from the late 20th century. The single-nave structure has an irregular rectangular floor plan, a projecting prismatic tower and stained-glass windows with biblical motifs. The combination of its form, tower and windows gives the church a clearly recognizable architectural profile.

History

Pečeňany developed from a settlement inhabited by Pechenegs in the 11th and 13th centuries. During this period, the ruler employed the Pechenegs for guard duties. In 1323, Pečeňany was mentioned in writing under the names “Besenyev” and “Bezenew”. The surviving place names and the history of the settlement are therefore just as much a part of the village’s identity as its later buildings.

Events

The events calendar is characterized by several distinct traditions. In 2026, the “Pečeňanský Hviezdoslav” was held for the sixth time as a children’s recitation competition. The “Furmanské preteky” took place in Pečeňany in 2023 and 2024.

Events were held in Pečeňany under the name “Fašiangový sprievod” in 2025 and 2026; in 2025, this also included “pochovávanie basy”. “Stavanie mája” took place in 2023 and 2026. Together, these event names represent different forms of local public life, from recitation competitions to seasonal and traditional events.

Village setting and connections

A sports complex with a football pitch is located in the southeastern part of Pečeňany’s built-up area. Road III/1835 provides the connection to the state road network. Thus, the village setting includes both a clearly located sports area and a specific road connection.
