Historical events, regional traditions, and a short hiking route come together to create a multifaceted picture of this Slovak travel destination.

History and Culture

Brezolupy was first mentioned in writing in 1294 and historically belonged to the domain of Uhrovský hrad. A major event occurred in 1663, when a Turkish raid reached the village, which was attacked and devastated. The oldest known municipal seal also tells part of the local history. It dates from 1733 and shows a leafy birch above four stylized ears of grain.

The cultural history also includes the Hody festivities, which were celebrated in Brezolupy for the Feast of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows on September 15. The Turecké hroby archaeological site lies northeast of the village. Brezolupy is also home to a Slavic burial mound and a settlement from the pre-Great Moravian period, dating from 675 to 791. The archaeological site includes a cremation grave containing Prague-type pottery, probably from the 8th or 9th century. This means that the documented history of the village extends far beyond its first written mention.

Landscape

The cadastral area of the municipality of Brezolupy covers 450 hectares and lies between 240 and 296 m above sea level. Brezolupy is largely surrounded by the Strážovská vrchovina highlands.
