Palárikovo Hunting Lodge is a national cultural monument.

Culture

The construction history of the hunting lodge dates back to after 1730. It was built in the late Baroque style at that time; at the beginning of the 19th century, it was remodelled in the Classicist style. Another historical trace leads to the Roman Catholic Church of Saint John of Nepomuk, which was built in 1754.

Palárikovo also has a dedicated place commemorating the writer and poet Karol Strmeň: the Karol Strmeň Memorial Room at the primary school preserves artefacts from his life and work. As part of the cultural offering, a gallery in the tower of Palárikovo Castle was also intended to be expanded by a room for presenting contemporary visual art.

Other named landmarks in Palárikovo include the water tower and the park by the castle. The park by the castle is considered a unique technical monument.

Nature

Palárikovo’s historic English park covers 52 hectares and has been included in the list of protected areas. The Bažantnica Palárikovo hunting ground represents another landscape dimension and covers 2,486 hectares. The history of this area also includes the Bažantnica Palárikovo pheasantry: it was established as a hunting ground by Count František Károlyi in 1752.

Palárikovské lúky is also home to a Natura 2000 site of European importance. The narrow-leaved thistle and the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) occur there.

Hiking

The Palárikovo Historic Park educational trail is designed as a self-guided walking loop. Its subject matter covers forestry, natural history and history. The loop can be walked in both summer and winter, thereby combining several topics in a format explicitly open to all seasons.

Cuisine

A local tradition is reflected in Palárikovská žufaňa. The 11th edition of this goulash-cooking competition took place on 7 September 2024 at the OTJ Palárikovo grounds. The date and venue are just as much part of the character of this specific event as its culinary competition format.
