Horné Hámre lies in the valley of the Kľakovský potok at the transition between the Pohronský Inovec and the Vtáčnik.

History

The historical population of Horné Hámre initially consisted of lumberjacks and charcoal burners. Later, miners and people who processed ores from local and other mines also became part of the population. The chronological sequence thus extends from work in the forest through the production of charcoal to the processing of ores from local and other mines. In the local history, forestry, charcoal burning and mining therefore follow a clear sequence; they represent different stages of the historical working life of Horné Hámre.

Nature

The educational trail "Spoznávaj les s Hámrošom" begins at the Pekný les cycling rest area near Kalvarie Horné Hámre. The trail is 350 metres long, runs in one direction and has an elevation gain of 65 metres. Seven informative stations with QR codes accompany the educational trail.

The educational trail "Po stopách lesnej železnice Kľakovskou dolinou" also passes through Horné Hámre. The municipality of Horné Hámre invites visitors to explore the educational hiking trail in the vicinity of the municipality. An easy cycling route from Žarnovica via Žarnovická Huta to Pekný les follows the route of the former forest railway. Horse rides are offered in the Pekný les area.

Culture

Kalvarie Horné Hámre comprises 14 stations. The SNP monument on Brode commemorates the battles that took place in the vicinity of Horné Hámre on 26 and 27 September 1944. It also commemorates the fallen soldiers of the Trnava garrison during the liberation of Horné Hámre and the surrounding area.

The monument is located at the end of Horné Hámre, above the built-up area, on the road towards Veľké Pole; it is freely accessible at the turn-off towards Ostrý Grúň. Its location at the edge of the village, above the built-up area and at this junction is just as much part of the description of this memorial site as its two historical references.
