Discover South Banat District: Nature, Trails and Culture
Holiday Apartment in South Banat District: Nature, Trails and Culture
South Banat District combines distinctive elevations, protected woodland, lakes and places with their own cultural histories. This gives you not one uniform programme, but a series of different ideas for each day: active trails, nature observation, historic buildings and places for sport, play or relaxation. If you choose a holiday apartment in South Banat District, you can plan your stay around the experiences you want – for example cycling routes, landscapes, culture or days by the water.
Woodland, elevations and two different cycling profiles
Most of the Vršačke planine woodland covers 4,177 hectares and has been protected as a nature park since 1982. Gudurički vrh is 641 metres high and the highest point in Vojvodina. Together, the woodland and summit give this natural area a distinctive profile.
The Čardak–Vrela circular route is 12 kilometres long, moderately difficult, suitable for cycling and connectable to the international EuroVelo cycling route. The Borovi-breg trail is 15 kilometres long and is suitable for off-road cycling and fitness training. Distance alone does not fully describe the difference between the cycling options: for Čardak–Vrela, the moderate difficulty rating is relevant, while the focus of the Borovi-breg trail is on off-road cycling and fitness training.
Hills, lakes and special nature observation opportunities
The hills of Humka, Terezina Hum, Veliki Breg and Velika Mogila are located around South Banat. The Belocrkvanska lakes are suitable for leisure, sports, fishing and birdwatching tourism and feature aquatic habitats. The nature theme therefore ranges from elevated landscape viewpoints to water-focused observation and activity days.
In Deliblatska peščara, you can observe Banat peonies, fern-leaved peonies, Pančić's wormwood and up to 20 orchid species. This landscape is therefore suitable for days in nature where looking closely matters more than distance or speed. At the Belocrkvanska lakes, the focus is on water and aquatic habitats; in Deliblatska peščara, it is on observing different plants. These two nature themes can be considered separately when planning your stay without mixing up their respective focuses.
Culture between church, remembrance and tradition
The Saborna Church in Vršac was built in 1785 on the site of an older church; its iconostasis was created by Pavel Đurković.
The Mihajlo Pupin Memorial Complex in Idvor comprises Pupin's birthplace, the old school, the Mihajlo I. Pupin National House and a cultural centre with a permanent exhibition. At Vojlovica Monastery, the chronological attribution is explicitly preserved in tradition: according to tradition, it was built in 1393. The two places have different cultural focuses – biographical remembrance and the monastery's history as handed down through tradition.
The Seleuški Višeboj is an event held annually in September, featuring traditional Krajina games in several disciplines. Devojački bunar has two outdoor swimming pools, walking paths, fitness trails, sports grounds and playgrounds. This allows you to turn cultural events, exercise, and water and play activities into different ideas for each day of your holiday.
Other places for finding your bearings in the region include Vršac, Kovin, Pančevo, Skorenovac, Dubovac, Starčevo, Opovo and Šumarak.
