Inđija: Cultural History, Art and Theatre
Accommodation in Inđija
Discover Inđija through several cultural layers: Keltsko selo focuses on Celtic life in the Srem region more than 2,300 years ago, while galleries and religious history lead to later periods. Theatre and cinema add another distinctive dimension. When planning your visit, distinguish between changing exhibitions and seasonal programmes, and the historical themes.
Celtic themes and changing exhibitions
At Keltsko selo in Inđija, the focus is on Celtic life in the Srem region more than 2,300 years ago. This themed tourism complex explores this past, and its programmes may change seasonally. If this theme is a key part of your stay, check in advance which programmes coincide with your travel dates.
The “Adligat” Gallery in Inđija is a branch of the “Adligat” Museum in Belgrade. When it opened on 30 March 2022, it presented an exhibition about Pavle Vuisić. Exhibitions in the gallery space change every two to three weeks; this schedule may vary. If a particular exhibition is the reason for your trip, check the current programme before your visit.
Gallery, church art and theatre
Architectural and art history offer different points of interest, too. The gallery in the Vojnović House was built around 1873. Jovan Štajner, a painter from Sombor, painted the interior of the Church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Mother of God in the late 19th century. The church’s iconostasis features Baroque and, in part, Rococo forms. The construction date of a gallery and the iconostasis’s painted decoration and stylistic features thus offer different ways to explore Inđija’s art history.
For the performing arts, Kulturni centar Inđija adds to the gallery attractions. Following the reconstruction of the old Sokolski dom, it opened on 15 May 2003. The theatre and cinema hall has 203 seats. The theatre programme includes around ten visiting productions per season. This gives an indication of the seasonal schedule; check in advance which performances take place during your stay.
Plan for summer activities and your journey
Inđija’s municipal swimming pool is open daily during the summer season. As this is a seasonal attraction, check the latest information before your visit. That way, you can plan a day at the pool as a separate activity, without confusing it with the changing exhibitions or theatre programme.
Inđija has specific addresses for arriving by public transport: the “Lasta” bus station is at Sonje Marinković Street bb, and the railway station is at Železnička 9. If you are travelling by bus or train, use these addresses to plan your arrival and check the operators’ information before you travel.
Changing exhibitions and performance schedules make it worthwhile to factor dates into your travel plans. The historical details also offer a cultural focus that is not tied to a specific event date.
