Zaječar: Culture, Kraljevica and the Timok Riverfront

Zaječar combines Roman heritage, historic architecture, parkland and paths along the water with special places for active and cultural days. Nearby lies Gamzigrad-Romuliana, the Palace of Galerius, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. For a sporting activity outside the winter season, Kraljevica’s “Sunčana staza” is an option: the fitness trail is 1,000 metres long and has five exercise stations.

Kraljevica is also associated with Gitarijada, a festival with a tradition spanning more than half a century. Gitarijada was held outdoors on Kraljevica, in a fenced-off area next to the town’s fairground. This cultural aspect complements the historic sights with a strong musical tradition.

Walking and Leisure on the Timok Riverfront

Popova Plaža is located directly on the bank of the Crni Timok. The area includes mini-golf courses and a footpath that runs along the entire Timok riverside promenade. This creates another opportunity to get to know Zaječar not only through its buildings and collections, but also through the course of the river and time spent outdoors.
