Gamzigrad between a Roman Palace and River Landscape

Gamzigrad combines an exceptional Roman heritage with a distinctive river landscape and evidence of the history of technology. At its heart is Felix Romuliana, a late Roman palace and memorial complex commissioned by Emperor Gaius Valerius Galerius Maximianus in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries. Hydroelectric Power Station, River and Regional Impressions

Another unusual highlight is the HE Gamzigrad hydroelectric power station. It was built in 1909 and is one of the oldest hydroelectric power stations in Serbia. As a museum and technical heritage site, it is considered unique. On 1 November 1909, the power station began operating and lit the first electric light bulbs on the market square of Zaječar.
