The forest landscape of the “Za Saymoy” Eco-Park and the sites of the city’s history reveal two different sides of Surgut. This lets you tailor your trip to your own interests. When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to first consider the experiences you want to shape your stay.

Forest landscape and trail network in the Eco-Park

The “Za Saymoy” Eco-Park is one of Surgut’s oldest and largest natural areas. Its natural forest landscape is complemented by developed infrastructure, creating a scenic contrast to the city’s historic and cultural sites. A city announcement dated September 21, 2026, described extensive upgrades to the trail network, with pedestrian and bicycle traffic to be routed separately. As this is a time-sensitive project update, check the current condition of the trails before visiting. If nature is important to your trip, you can make the park a focus of your itinerary.

Architecture, exhibitions and city history

The architectural ensemble of the “Stary Surgut” Historical and Cultural Center consists of 14 reconstructed buildings that once stood in different parts of the city. The center’s program includes exhibitions, guided tours, master classes, festive events, traditional evenings and meetings with long-time residents. The exhibitions are held on a permanent basis; for dates of the other events, it is best to check the current schedule.

The exhibition “Semeynyy albom Surguta” preserves the orally transmitted history of the descendants of Surgut’s founders, along with their traditions and customs. At the “Dom kraeveda,” an exhibition presents documents, photographs, printed materials and personal belongings of local historians from Surgut. These themes complement the view of the city’s buildings and history with personal accounts and the work of local researchers. Before your visit, ask the venue about access to the “Semeynyy albom Surguta” exhibition.

Remembrance and architecture in Surgut

The Memorial of Glory brings together objects relating to Surgut’s history and commemorates the city’s residents who died in the Great Patriotic War. Another landmark of the city’s history is the monument to the founders of Surgut in the 400th Anniversary Square: it consists of four bronze figures. Together, the two sites represent different forms of remembrance—of the city’s development and of its residents.

Individual buildings also give Surgut a distinctive architectural character. The house of merchant Galaktion Stepanovich Klepikov is the city’s only architectural monument from the late 19th century to have been preserved at its historic location. A foreign-language school building is considered an unusual architectural landmark and is known to residents as Surgut’s Big Ben. These examples range from a preserved merchant’s house to a monument and an unusually named school building.

Exhibitions and seasonal city tours

The Museum of the Black Fox at the Historical and Cultural Center features an interactive exhibition with VR technology. As opening hours may change, check them before your visit. A city announcement dated June 24, 2026, also described the seasonal walking tour “Surgutskiy Kreml”: it passes through historic streets, tells the story of Surgut and introduces notable residents. Check the current tour schedule in advance.

Choose accommodation to suit your interests

When planning your vacation, you can first consider whether nature, architecture, exhibitions or city history is the deciding factor. Then search for a holiday apartment based on the visits you actually plan to make, and check the location of each accommodation option against your selection.
