Nature and Landscape

Bazoș Arboretum covers 62 ha and is located in the area of Bazoșu Nou in Timiș County; it is home to 776 taxa, including 231 conifer species.

Bazoș Arboretum lies in the flat plain of the Timiș and Bega rivers. Its elevation is 95–97 m.

Since 1994, Bazoș Dendrological Park has been designated a protected area for the protection of the biodiversity of the gene pool and ecological fund. The park includes Parcul Mare, Parcul American and several nurseries for cultivating exotic species.

The park structure therefore consists of named areas and the nurseries, whose purpose is to cultivate exotic species. The names Parcul Mare and Parcul American are part of the park's description, as is its designation as a protected area.

The oldest oak tree in Timiș County stands in the park. It is over 500 years old, has a circumference of 6 m and is 30 m tall.

Culture and History

The “Cuv. Paraschiva” church in Bazoșu Nou was built in 1961.

Bazoșu Nou was founded in 1926. As part of its foundation, 26 families from Transylvania were settled there. More specifically, the families came from Tălmăcel in the commune of Tălmaciu near Sibiu.

In Hungarian, the village was called Határpuszta. Bazoșu Nou was also known as “Colonia Hotar”.

The local history therefore contains several chronologically and linguistically distinct details: the documented settlement of the 26 families followed the founding in 1926, while Határpuszta was the Hungarian name of the village and “Colonia Hotar” was another known name for Bazoșu Nou.

Bazoșu Nou’s Ruga festival is dated October 14.

At the 2023 edition of Ruga satului Bazoșu Nou at the Bazoșu Nou Cultural Centre, authentic folk music and dance, local dances and traditional clothing were presented.

Routes

Traseu 5 is 21 km long. It runs from Lunca Timișului via Pădurea Giroc and the Timiș embankment to Parcul Dendrologic Bazoșu Nou.
