Culture

The iconostasis of the parish church in Viișoara was made from oak and walnut wood; the icons were painted at Agapia Monastery. The parish church was consecrated in 2010 and is dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helena. Historically, Viișoara was ecclesiastically affiliated with Bistrița Monastery, for which parishioners travelled a six-kilometre route. In the vicinity of Viișoara, Bistrița Monastery is a national architectural monument of interest.

Bisericani Monastery was founded by Bogdan III between 1508 and 1512 on the foundations of an earlier wooden church. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, it was one of the major monasteries in this part of the country. A tower chapel built by Ștefan cel Mare bears witness to the era of Bistrița Monastery and is considered the oldest surviving building within the present-day monastery complex. The museum collection of Bistrița Monastery includes icons from the 16th to the 18th century, archaeological terracotta, sculpture and fresco fragments, historical coins, and objects from the princely necropolis. The collection also includes an 800 kg bell donated by Ștefan cel Mare in 1494.

The Benedictine Monastery of Maica Unității is located in Viișoara. Its construction was completed in 2003, and the inauguration took place on 29 June 2003. Benedictine nuns who follow the Rule of Saint Benedict live at the monastery.

Routes

The railway line runs through Viișoara. During the interwar period, development work gave the village a square layout with symmetrically arranged streets intersecting along the north-south and east-west axes. From the DN15 national road between Piatra Neamț and Bicaz, the Viișoara–Bisericani county road leads to the Scăricica viewpoint.

From the Scăricica viewpoint, the road continues through the forest to Bisericani Monastery. Within the municipality, Scăricica offers a viewpoint over the entire Bistrița Valley and Piatra Neamț. Alexandru cel Bun lies on the tourist route connecting Piatra Neamț with the Bicaz Gorge, Red Lake, the Bicaz Reservoir and the spa resort of Durău.
