Sângeorgiu de Mureș combines a traditional saltwater spa with castle history, a major riverside event and notable destinations in the surrounding area. The Băile Sărate Sângeorgiu de Mureș salt baths are at the heart of the health and recreation offering. Their concentrated mineral water containing chloride, sodium and iodine, mineral mud and a gentle bioclimate define this spa destination.
Saltwater and Bathing Culture
The Băile Sărate Sângeorgiu de Mureș facilities offer thermal baths, a sauna, peat packs and massages. These are complemented by physiotherapy equipment, outdoor saltwater pools and a landscaped beach. The development of the spa dates back to a saltwater pool built in 1880. In 1912–1913, saltwater emerged from a depth of 864 metres during drilling for natural gas. The history of the spa destination is therefore closely connected with the use of saltwater. When planning a day at the baths, current opening hours and any time restrictions imposed by the respective facility can be checked in advance. This applies to the thermal baths, sauna, peat packs, massages and physiotherapy services as well as the outdoor pools and beach.
Culture at Máriaffi Castle
Built in 1870, Máriaffi Castle houses the public collection of Sângeorgiu de Mureș with a permanent exhibition. The collection gives the public access to culture for educational and recreational purposes. The castle is open to visitors; visits can be arranged by telephone at +40 721 233 751. The year of construction, collection and permanent exhibition come together here at a historic site. A telephone appointment should be made in advance for a visit to the castle.
Festival on the Mureș
Every year, the VIBE Festival brings together more than 50,000 participants on the banks of the Mureș in Sângeorgiu de Mureș. The event is one of the town’s major recurring dates and combines a festival atmosphere with a clearly identified riverside location. For visits to an exhibition or festival, current opening hours or event dates should be checked before travelling. For festival visits, the event date and event times are among the details that can be checked before departure.
Park, Mill and Regional Destinations
A park contains two centuries-old oak trees, which in 2024 were stated to be 722 and 812 years old respectively. The Csíki Mill complements the historic sights: its history began in 1912, when Váradi Béla built a mill for farmers.
Dealul Sântana is located in the immediate surroundings of Sângeorgiu de Mureş. The wider regional area includes Biserica Reformată Şincai, Biserica Romano-Catolică Şincai, Biserica Ortodoxă Şincai, Biserica Greco-Catolică Râciu, Fântâna Babii, Dealul Şugăului and Dealul Popaia.
