Acăţari: Culture, Crafts and Landscape

Acăţari lies on both banks of the middle course of the Niraj stream and at the same time in its valley. The municipality's area is hilly and partly wooded; it also includes the wide floodplain and the generally flat river terraces of the Niraj. In this landscape, the river connects the banks, valley, floodplain and terraces as different types of terrain. Acăţari was first documented in 1497.

Other places include Bistra Mureşului, Rohrdachen, Weissenkirch, Corunca, Săcalu De Pădure, Gorneşti, Schässburg and Chibed.

Crafts and tradition

In Roteni, making decorative and functional objects from rushes and reeds remains a tradition that is continued by almost every family. These include, for example, chair seat coverings. In Roteni's Roma community, baskets made from twigs, as well as various utilitarian and handicraft objects made from rushes, are also produced. Rushes, reeds and twigs are therefore used in a variety of craft activities. The products range from chair seat coverings and baskets to other utilitarian and handicraft objects.

Culture and churches

The wooden church of “Sf. Nicolae” in Vălenii is listed as a historic monument with the year 1696. In the wider regional surroundings of Acăţari lies Biserica Ortodoxă Găneşti, an Orthodox church. Also in the wider regional surroundings is Biserica Reformată Găneşti, a Reformed church. The wider regional surroundings of Acăţari also contain Biserica Reformată Şincai, likewise a Reformed church. Biserica Romano-Catolică Şincai is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Acăţari and is Roman Catholic. Găneşti and Şincai thus have Orthodox, Reformed and Roman Catholic churches in the wider regional surroundings.

The Dealul Sântana hill lies in the surroundings of Acăţari. In the wider regional surroundings of Acăţari lies the Vârful Duca peak. The Dealul Şugăului hill and the Dealul Popaia hill are also located in the wider regional surroundings of Acăţari. Leisure and events

Parcul McQueen in Acăţari has three swimming pools: two freshwater pools with a slide and a saltwater pool. The slide belongs to the two freshwater pools; the third pool contains salt water. Acăţari also has a modern leisure and sports centre with sports grounds for recreational sports. The traditional culture and arts festival “Zilele comunei Acăţari” was held from 18 to 20 August 2023; a 13th edition is documented. The festival extended over the period beginning on 18 August 2023.

The E60 international road runs through the municipality of Acăţari for 11 kilometres.
