Water landscape and nature park

Orșova is a port on the Danube, and water sports can be practised in the city. The visitor centre of the Porțile de Fier Nature Park is located in Orșova’s civic centre. Route and special perspectives

The themed route “Pe urmele lui Hercules” leads through the Danube Gorge, Orșova and Eșelnița. Orșova is one of the three locations along the route.

Monastery, churches and architectural history

Sfânta Ana Monastery was built between 1936 and 1939 on Dealul Moșului as a foundation of the journalist Pamfil Șeicaru and consecrated on 2 December 1990. It is located above Orșova and offers views over part of the Porțile de Fier Reservoir. The Catholic church in the centre is a modernist building designed by architect Hans Fackelmann and was built from 1966 to 1972.

In Orșova-Sud, Sfântul Nicolae Church was rebuilt from 1969 to 1970. The new building follows the plans of the old church, which was classified as a historic monument. The Seracova Viaduct is also located on the northern outskirts of the city. It was built by the Ottomans from 1739 to 1740 and is the last remnant of the former Cerna Canal.

Museum and Danube Gorge

The Orșova branch of the Iron Gate Region Museum comprises three exhibition areas covering natural sciences, history and archaeology, as well as ethnography. The natural history exhibition presents part of the Danube Gorge with its characteristic fauna and flora.

Historic paths

The Drumul Eroilor was a 1,500-metre-long, fortified access route from the centre of old Orșova through the hills. Seven wayside crosses carved from solid oak, with benches for resting, lined its route.
