Smida on Lake Beliș-Fântânele

Smida is located in the heart of Apuseni Nature Park and on the shore of Lake Beliș-Fântânele. The spectacular natural landscape makes the village an interesting destination for anyone who wants to combine nature experiences, water and physical activity during their holiday. At the same time, Smida is described as the municipality’s largest village in terms of area, with spacious surroundings and an isolated character. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore particularly important to consider what kind of holiday you are planning: active days on the lake and cycling route, cultural discoveries or a trip focused on the landscape.

Natural surroundings and location by the lake

Its location in Apuseni Nature Park gives Smida a distinct landscape character. The village is situated not only in a protected natural area but also directly on Lake Beliș-Fântânele. The described isolated character may also appeal to travellers who deliberately wish to plan their stay away from densely populated places.

Kayaking, boating and cycling route

On Lake Beliș-Fântânele, you can cover at least 13 km by kayak from the dam to the end of the lake near Smida. This specific route helps with planning your day without anticipating its duration or difficulty level. If you are travelling with children of different ages, you can divide the days according to their interests and combine water activities with other excursions. Sport fishing and trips by boat or kayak are also possible on Lake Beliș.

Smida also offers a documented starting point for a cycling tour: A cycling route begins in the village and leads via Doda Pilii and Ic Ponor. If you want to set off directly on a cycling tour in the morning, take the location within the village and the planned approach route into account when planning. This does not provide any information about the route, distance from the accommodation or travel time, which should be checked separately.

Culture and special travel experiences

In addition to its natural surroundings, Smida also has a notable cultural connection. From 15 to 17 August 2019, the Smida Jazz Festival took place for the fourth time in the village of Smida, in the heart of Apuseni Nature Park—an international open-air festival for avant-garde jazz. The 2019 festival programme also included a cave excursion to Peștera Pepii. These historical programme items show a connection between music, landscape and discovery without presupposing that the festival will be repeated or that there is a current events programme.
