Nature

The Împărăţia lui Zamolxe is located in the Măguri-Răcătău area. The area is a zoological nature reserve. It covers 514 hectares. The natural features of the area therefore include both a large protected area and a landscape of marshes and rare plants.

The Turbăria de la Căpăţâna is a marshland of botanical value. This marshland has been protected since 1969. The Turbăria de la Căpăţâna is located on the main ridge of the Gilău-Muntele Mare massif. Between the Căpăţâna and Balomireasa peaks, it reaches an elevation of 1,600 metres.

The Molhaşurile Căpăţânii protected area comprises marshes. These marshes are home to rare plant species. Their botanical importance and protected status together shape the landscape here.

Gorges and Vistas

The Someșul Rece River forms a gorge. It is deep and wild. A forest road runs through the gorge. The Someșul Rece dam is located at its upper end. The river, gorge, road and dam are all part of the same landscape described here.

The Răcătău Valley separates two communes: Măguri-Răcătău and Mărișel. In the Apuseni Mountains, the valley forms one of the deepest gorges. The geographical relationship between the two communes is therefore directly connected to the course of the valley.

The Țâcla Gabrii rock offers views. From there, the villages of Mărișel and Măguri can be seen. As a named viewpoint, the rock connects views of both villages with the landscape of the Răcătău Valley.

Cheile Dumitresei can be reached from the Defileul Someșului Rece. A forest road leads there. Alternatively, access follows the valley. This place therefore has two differently named access routes on record.

In Cheile Dumitresei, a narrow path climbs up a slope. From there, a panorama opens up directly above the stream. The path and the stream mark the two elements of the terrain described here.

Trails

The “drumul lui Antonescu” road is historic. It is paved and connects Măguri-Răcătău with Valea Ierii. Tourists use this road today. It is also used for sporting competitions. Its current use therefore exists alongside its historic function as a link between the two places.

The Măguri-Răcătău–Smidele mountain route is marked with a yellow bar. Allow 8–9 hours for the route. Its difficulty level is moderate. The route is thus described by a clearly specified marking, a stated duration and a moderate level of difficulty.

The CG trail connects Măguri-Răcătău with the ridge of Muntele Mare. It runs below Vf. Piatra Groșilor. In winter, its accessibility depends on the amount and quality of the snow. It is then accessible only to experienced, well-equipped tourists. Ski touring equipment is recommended because of the thick snow cover. The winter information therefore specifies both the relevant snow conditions and the experience and equipment required.

Culture

The wooden church of Măguri-Răcătău, Teleni branch, was built in 1825. The year of construction places the church as a historic testimony within the local cultural landscape.

The Căsuța Bunicii Museum displays shirts. They are over 100 years old. Wooden objects and painted bowls are also exhibited there. The museum therefore presents textiles alongside wooden objects and painted ceramics.

The museum houses hundreds of objects. These objects represent centuries-old local traditions. The collection thus extends beyond individual exhibits and comprises numerous objects connected with local traditions.
