Turnu Ruieni – Circular Route, Mountains and Churches

Nature

A circular route starting in Turnu Ruieni leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Sebeș Valleys, Muntele Mic and Muntele Țarcu. Turnu Ruieni lies on the Sebeș River at an altitude of around 290 metres. The DJ 608A road connects Caransebeș with the holiday resort of Muntele Mic via Zervești, Turnu Ruieni and Borlova.

The Măgura Măgulicia mountain is located near Turnu Ruieni. Muntele Mic is also in the surrounding area. The Vf. Muntele Mic and Maurului peaks are located there as well. In the Valea Sebeșului near Zervești, the daffodil meadows form a 40-hectare botanical nature reserve.

The landscape thus extends from the river setting along the Sebeș to the aforementioned mountains and peaks. The circular route opens up views across the Sebeș Valleys towards Muntele Mic and Muntele Țarcu. The valley near Zervești is also home to the clearly defined botanical nature reserve of the daffodil meadows.

The Sărbătoarea narciselor in Zervești is a rural festival held in May every spring in the municipality of Turnu Ruieni. The festival venue, Zervești, is therefore part of the described surroundings, along with the river and mountain landscape of Turnu Ruieni.

Routes

Tourists can reach Zervești via the Caransebeș–Turnu Ruieni road. From there, they can continue along an agricultural track to a clearing.

Culture

The ruins of Turnul lui Ovidiu stand on Dealul Stârminița at an altitude of 420 metres. Turnul lui Ovidiu has a rectangular cross-section and measures around twelve metres. Its former height was probably about 13.5 metres, and its interior was arranged across four levels.

The Church of Sfinții Apostoli Petru și Pavel in Zervești was built in 1857. Its construction is also dated to 1853 and attributed to the Baroque style. The Crucea Eroilor de pe Muntele Mic monument is located near Turnu Ruieni.

The churches Biserica Rugi, Biserica Prisaca and Biserica Ohabița are located in the wider regional area around Turnu Ruieni.

The cultural surroundings thus bring together various architectural and commemorative sites: the ruins on Dealul Stârminița, the church in Zervești, the monument on Muntele Mic and the three churches in the wider regional area.
