History and Culture
The village of Săcădat is believed to have been founded in 1256.
The village of Săcădat is mentioned in the archives of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oradea in 1532.
The village of Săcădat is mentioned under the historical name “Zakadoth”.
The wooden church “Sf. Arhangheli”, which belongs to the Săcădat parish, is located in Borșa.
The building dates from 1692.
In the list of historic monuments, the church bears the reference BH-II-m-B-01119.
After 1918, a peasant choir was founded in the Săcădat commune.
The ensemble “Trei sate, trei surori” comes from Săcădat and represents the Valea Crișului Repede subzone.
The ensemble was founded in 2016.
The recorded place references thus bring together different periods: the presumed founding, the mention in the 16th century, the construction of the church in Borșa, and the commune’s more recent musical tradition.
The cultural heritage therefore includes both the historical designation “Zakadoth” and the documented church construction and village choir traditions.
Geographical Setting
Geographically, the Săcădat commune lies in the Crișul Repede Valley.
The commune’s area includes flat terrain in the floodplain of the Crișul Repede River.
Part of the village of Săcădat lies on gentle hills.
The Chijicului Valley crosses the areas of the villages of Borșa and Săcădat for a length of 10 km.
The landscape thus combines the floodplain of the Crișul Repede with the gentle hills of the village. Within the commune, the Chijicului Valley forms another clearly named landscape feature and extends across the areas of Borșa and Săcădat.
Transport
National road DN1 passes through Săcădat.
It is also designated as European route E60.
Săcădat has a CFR railway station.
Alongside the place name, DN1 and its designation as E60 also provide the higher-level road classification. The CFR railway station is an additional feature located directly in the village. Both details therefore sit directly alongside the commune’s geographical location.
Other places include Pietroasa, Călățea, Urvind, Ștei, Gepiu, Salonta, Băile 1 Mai and Auşeu.
