The Călățea–Tăurile Pilii archaeological site is associated with an isolated discovery from the La Tène period. In 1475, Călățea bore the name “Kalotha”. A census from 1753 recorded ten serf families in Călățea. This gives the local history several clearly dated points of reference, each representing a different period.

Watercourses and protected cave spaces

The Valea Mierăie watercourse is located in the village of Călățea and rises in the village of Tomnatic. Its source in Tomnatic extends the watercourse’s geographical connection beyond Călățea. Peștera Cugliș is located in Călățea and is designated as a nature reserve. At this natural site, the specific local connection includes not only the location but also the protection status and the cave space. Peștera lui Potriva is the underground entry point of the Mnierea River and lies at the western edge of the karstic drainage depression of the same name near Călățea. A succession of waterfalls follows the large entrance. The cave is approximately 4 kilometers long overall; its course also has a relatively high technical difficulty level. The approximate length refers to the entire underground course and is explicitly an estimate. The technical difficulty level must be considered separately and describes a distinct planning factor. Anyone including this natural site in their travel plans should therefore take both its extent and its technical demands into account. Regional transport connections

The municipality of Aştileu lies on the Oradea–Cluj–Bucharest railway line. Aştileu is also located on county road 764 C along the Tileagd–Aştileu–Şuncuiuş–Bulz route. In the stated order, the railway line runs via Oradea, Cluj and Bucharest; county road 764 C runs via Tileagd, Aştileu, Şuncuiuş and Bulz. Aştileu therefore appears both in the railway line designation and in the road sequence. For regional travel planning, the two transport connections remain separate: on the one hand, there is the Oradea–Cluj–Bucharest railway line; on the other, county road 764 C with the sequence Tileagd–Aştileu–Şuncuiuş–Bulz.
