Pietroasa: Caves, Waterfalls and Mountain Trails
Pietroasa lies on the banks of the Crișul Pietros and the Valea Crăiasa valley. In the Apuseni Mountains, Peștera Urșilor is located near the commune at an altitude of 842 m. The cave is more than 1,500 m long and has two galleries situated one above the other.
Nature
The active Coliboaia Cave is 750 m long. The cave has more challenging passages. Speleological equipment such as a coverall, boots and cave ladders is required to explore the gallery. The cave also contains wall paintings depicting several animals.
Cascada Oselu is an almost vertical waterfall. It has five tiers and a height of approximately 10 m.
Cascada Săritoarea Bohodei is located on the Valea Bohodei. Valea Bohodei is a left-bank tributary of the Aleu River. The waterfall descends in several tiers and reaches a total height of approximately 80 m. It is considered the largest waterfall in the Apuseni Mountains.
Măgura Guranilor is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Pietroasa. Măgura Fericii is a mountain near Pietroasa. Cârligaţi is a mountain near Pietroasa. Băiţa is also a mountain near Pietroasa.
Hiking
The TA hiking trail connects the village of Pietroasa with the ridge of the Vlădeasa Mountains near Şaua Bohodei. It leads to Cascada Săritoarea Bohodei.
The TG hiking trail connects the communes of Pietroasa and Arieşeni. It provides access to Cheile Galbenei.
The final section of the Padiş–Satul de vacanţă Boga–Pietroasa hiking trail runs through the Valea Crișului Pietros valley. There are hay meadows there that have been designated as a botanical reserve. The trail then reaches the village of Pietroasa.
The Circuitul Văii Galbena circular trail passes through Glăvoi, Gheţarul Focul Viu, Poiana Florilor and Cheile Galbenei. Izbucul Galbenei, Avenul Borţig and Poiana Ponor are also part of its route; the circular trail then returns to Padiş.
Culture
The Coliboaia Cave contains wall paintings depicting a bison, a horse, a big cat, a bear's head and two rhinoceroses. Thus, the depiction includes a bison, a horse, a big cat, a bear's head and two rhinoceroses.

Getting There
The main access route to the commune of Pietroasa branches off to the left from the DN 76 Oradea–Deva at kilometre 72. From there, it runs along the DJ 763 to kilometre 11.
