Comuna Bascov lies in a transition zone between the Getic Piedmont and the Pitești Plateau. The commune includes part of the Argeș floodplain and extends across the Cotmeana Platform, which is considered a plateau with relatively flat, stable terrain that is not at risk of flooding.
Landscape
The Argeș River runs from north to south along the left side of the commune of Bascov, through its floodplain. Dealul Viilor hill is located nearby; at the same time, it is situated in the vicinity of Bascov. The La Poieniţe and Dealul Siru hills are also located nearby.
Getting Around
The Pitești–Curtea de Argeș railway line runs through Bascov and is served there by Bascov railway station. The paved DN7-E51 runs through Bascov for approximately 7.5 kilometres and connects the commune with Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea. In the centre, the DJ703 branches off from the DN7-E15 towards Pitești and Curtea de Argeș.
Culture and History
The Bascov Commune Cultural Centre is home to the “Doina Bascovului” ensemble, which has 49 artists, including soloists, instrumentalists and dancers. The same Cultural Centre is also home to the six-member male vocal group “Rapsozii Bascovului”.
Bascov railway station is classified as a building of local heritage interest dating from 1880. The wooden Church of “Sfântul Gheorghe” in Bascov is a historic monument and is located approximately 300 metres from the commune’s administrative centre. It was donated in the mid-18th century by Martin Buliga, a merchant from Pitești.
The wooden Church of “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Glâmbocu was built in 1808 by Dascălul Radu and local villagers. The enclosed porch was added in 1869. The church can be reached via the E81 and the Bascov–Glâmbocu route; the paved local road DC212B then continues for another 300 metres to the church.
The Vieroşi Monastery and the churches Biserica Cuvioasa Parascheva, Biserica Cimitir Moşoaia and Biserica Hinţeşti are located nearby.

Bascov Commune Day, “Ziua Comunei Bascov”, is celebrated every year on 31 August and highlights local traditions and customs. The 2025 celebration of “Ziua Comunei Bascov” included an artistic programme by the orchestra, soloists, rapsozi and dancers of “Doina Bascovului”.
The Bascov Commune Cultural Centre held an event dedicated to the Ia, a traditional Romanian folk costume shirt, on 15 May 2026. Also on 15 May 2026, the Islaz, Aninoasa picnic and leisure area in the Brăileni district of Bascov was used for recreation, exercise and artistic activities.
