Comuna Moșoaia – Archaeology, Churches and Hilly Landscape

Archaeology

Bronze Age finds from the Tei culture were discovered at the archaeological settlement Aşezarea de la Smeura - La Rogoaze. The finds include pottery fragments, fragments of fired clay, a stone knife and a flint point; the site is dated to 1700–1400 BC. The settlement lies approximately 0.5 km south of DJ 703E and approximately 1.5 km north of DN 67B.

Remains of a Geto-Dacian settlement dating from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD were also discovered at the settlement Aşezarea de la Smeura - La Rogoaze, including pottery fragments and an iron knife.

The Necropola de la Moşoaia - Pădurea Moşoii necropolis is located at the entrance to Moşoaia. It is dated from the Late Hallstatt period to the Early La Tène period and consists of five tumuli. The largest tumulus in this Hallstatt necropolis has a diameter of approximately 25 m and is 3 m high.

Churches and Memorial Sites

The Biserica Cuvioasa Paraschiva church is located in the valley of the Teleorman River, halfway between the village of Moşoaia and the village of Lăzăreşti. The Biserica Cuvioasa Paraschiva in Moșoaia bears monument number AG-II-m-B-13746.

In Ciocănăi, the Biserica Sfântul Nicolae church bears monument number AG-II-m-A-13595. The Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului church is located in Smeura.

The churches Biserica Cuvioasa Parascheva, Biserica Hinţeşti, Biserica Cimitir Moşoaia and Biserica Dealu Viilor are located in the vicinity of Comuna Moșoaia. Votive frescoes of the founders and their families have been preserved in the church in Hințești.

The original oil paintings in the church of Hințești were executed by Gheorghe Stoenescu, who is described in the inscription as a student of the renowned Romanian painter Gh. Tătărăscu.

The Moșoaia war memorial bears the names of local heroes from the First and Second World Wars on white marble plaques.
