Łącko: Half-timbered houses, church and Lake Wicko

Łącko brings together historic architecture and views of Lake Wicko. The village is located in the Kraina w Kratę and is considered a valuable historical, architectural and natural ensemble, as well as an outstanding representative of the region. This offers different ways to plan your holiday: you can explore the architectural history and layout of the village, or focus on lakeside views and cycling routes.

Half-timbered houses, village layout and history

Around thirty half-timbered buildings have been preserved in Łącko; they were built from the mid-19th century onwards. Together with the Parish Church of the Annunciation, they shape the village’s historic character. The church is Gothic, dates from the 13th century and was remodelled in 1607. Those interested in different periods of architecture will find a clear contrast here between the medieval church and the half-timbered houses from later centuries.

A row of old lime trees surrounds the church grounds. Ten of these trees are recognised as natural monuments. Here, built heritage and striking old trees come together in one place. Łącko has also preserved an imposing commemorative plaque: it stands where the young Prince Bogusław X is said to have lived.

Another dated milestone is the 2019 award: that year, Łącko received a certificate for participating in the network of Poland’s most interesting villages. Together with its regional character and preserved buildings, this gives an impression of why Łącko is regarded as a place with a distinctive historical and architectural character.

Relaxation on the shore of Lake Wicko

A wooden leisure pavilion was built on the shore of Lake Wicko in Łącko, and natural gravel was added to the footpaths. Park hammocks were also installed there. The recreational area on the beach includes a designated fire pit. These facilities give the lakeside area a distinct role in descriptions of the village, alongside the historical features of the church and half-timbered houses.

A self-service bicycle repair station has been installed on the beach for cyclists. It is a useful landmark if you want to include both Lake Wicko and cycling in your stay. The lakeside facilities and views of the lake can also be considered in their own right as reasons to include the village in your holiday plans.

Cycling views of Lake Wicko

On the R10 cycling route towards Łącko, a view of Lake Wicko opens up to the left of the route. On arriving in Łącko, you can also turn left to take in the lake from another vantage point. The two views described offer different perspectives: one appears on the way to the village, the other as you arrive.

Another way to experience Łącko is the Trasa szachulca i legend. It was designed to highlight the village’s oval layout. While the R10 route brings the lake into view, this route draws attention to the shape of Łącko. The impressions of the village and its landscape are therefore distinct, rather than being reduced to a single theme.
