Karsko: Manor House Park, Church and Lake

Park and natural monuments

The manor house park in Karsko covers 3 hectares and contains around 40 tree and shrub species. This approximate number gives a specific impression of the variety of woody plants without reducing the park to a single tree species. Visitors interested in nature and old trees can also find three designated natural monuments here: the approximately 200-year-old oak “Chochoł”, the lime tree “Brzęczadło” and a horse chestnut.

Karsko also lies in the buffer zone of Gorzowski Landscape Park. The manor house park and this designation describe two different aspects of the village: its stock of trees and shrubs, and its position in relation to the protected landscape area. Lake Karskie Wielkie is 1 km from Karsko. There are beaches and bathing spots on its northern and southern shores. The northern beach also has a bathing jetty and a campsite. Cycling is another way to include Karsko in your travel plans: a blue cycle route passes through the village and is about 19 km long. Church and historic buildings

The branch church of “St Anthony” was built by Cistercians from Kołbacz in the second half of the 13th century. Its history also includes a later reconstruction: in the second half of the 19th century, it was converted again, from the Gothic to the Neo-Gothic style. In 1899, the entire appearance of the church was changed in the process. Its architectural history thus extends from its medieval origins to a major intervention in the 19th century.

A hunting lodge with defensive features was built in Karsko in 1624 by Adam von Schwartzenberg. The former hunting lodge is now a ruin. Another historic building mentioned is the Baroque manor house, built in 1755 on the orders of an owner. The different dates and architectural styles offer several ways to explore the village’s history: the medieval church, the 17th-century hunting lodge and the 18th-century manor house. Together with the park, lake and cycle route, they offer a range of travel interests rather than one single dominant theme.
