Jabłonka on Lake Omulew: Kayak Route, Forest and Village Culture

Jabłonka is one of the four villages in the Kraina 7 osobliwości area, which is connected with Lake Omulew and lies in the Puszcza Ramucko-Napiwodzka forest. Water and forest shape the landscape around the village; in the village centre, a wooden Evangelical chapel adds a distinct cultural landmark. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between the kayak route starting in Jabłonka and trails in the wider area around the lake. Water Routes and Kayaking Ideas

The marked 43 km kayak route on the Omulew, described in 2016, starts in Jabłonka on Lake Omulew and runs via Kot, Dębowiec, Głuch and Wesołowo to Wielbark. A 2016 description also identifies Jabłonka as the most convenient starting point for a kayak trip on the Omulew; kayaks could be launched at several locations there. Check the current launch conditions locally before planning your trip.

The approximately 53 km Szlak Bursztynowy (Amber Trail) also passes through Jabłonka and is a separate route from the Omulew kayak trip. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, check the trail’s current markings.

Forest and Nature Around the Lake

In the wider area around Lake Omulew, water sports and fishing are part of the local leisure scene. Another kayaking option is a route on the Omulwia to its confluence with the Narew near Ostrołęka. The names Omulew and Omulwia sound similar, but here they refer to different rivers: the kayak route from Jabłonka goes to Wielbark, while the trip on the Omulwia goes to the Narew near Ostrołęka. The local leisure scene also includes hiking, horse-riding and cycling trails through forest areas and past the Koniuszanka II nature reserve. The river, lake and forest trails therefore offer distinct options to focus on when planning your trip.

The “Świat Wodnika Omulka” project, described in 2021, was designed as an interactive treasure hunt by the lake. Visitors were to follow Wodnik Omulek using a smartphone app while travelling by kayak, boat or pedal boat, discovering the lakeshore and its hidden corners along the way; access via QR codes was planned. This activity was designed to focus on exploring the lake’s shores.

Village Culture and Local History

A wooden Evangelical chapel stands on a low hill in the centre of the village. Its construction, denomination and location give the village centre a specific cultural dimension alongside the lake and forest. On 17 August 2013, several sports competitions and the culinary competition “Dary lasu i jeziora na talerzu” were held on the beach in Jabłonka. The title brings together the forest, lake and cuisine; the event also included a sports programme.
