Geographical Location

Urowo is a village in the Dzierzgoń-Morąg Lakeland in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Iławski County and the municipality of Zalewo.

Archaeological traces from the Late Bronze Age can be found in the area around Urowo, including several burial mounds. Two Prussian hillforts from the early Middle Ages were also found near the village.

Urowo lies between Lake Gil Wielki to the south, Lake Kocioł to the east and Lake Jeziorak to the west.

Urowo was founded in 1346 by Konrad von Bruningsheim, the commander of Dzierzgoń, as a chartered settlement on the site of an earlier Prussian settlement.

The lake associated with Urowo has predominantly shallow, gently sloping shores, alder and birch forests, and wet or marshy southern shores with reed vegetation. This landscape is interesting for visitors who enjoy the transition between forests, wetlands and reed-lined shores.
