Brine facilities, water tower and local history
Gołdap’s spa facilities include a mineral water pavilion and graduation towers. The Mazurskie tężnie solankowe are 220 metres long and 8 metres high. Together with the peat and climate profile, these facilities shape the town’s spa character. Their dimensions also make the structure easy to picture: it is considerably longer than it is high.
The historic water tower offers a different perspective. It has two modern viewing terraces overlooking the town and the surrounding forests. This structure brings together historic and modern elements, while the views described take in both Gołdap and its forested surroundings.
The permanent exhibition at the Muzeum Ziemi Gołdapskiej consists mainly of ethnographic, historical and geological exhibits, as well as military memorabilia. Its themes therefore range from culture and history to geology and military history. Visitors interested in several aspects of a place will find more than one way to explore it here.
Events are also part of the cultural scene. A 2023-dated overview from the Dom Kultury in Gołdap lists the Erupcja Guitar Festival and the Festiwal Pogranicza „Kartaczewo” among its events. Hiking trail and lakeside experiences
The green hiking trail “Szlak mazurskich gór” starts at the Immanuel Kant monument in Gołdap and heads south towards Grabowo. Its starting point and direction provide a clear guide for planning your route; check current trail conditions before setting out.
At the Słoneczny Zakątek beach complex, you can play table tennis or take a solar catamaran trip on Lake Gołdap. This gives you two different types of activity to choose from: a game at the beach complex or a trip on the lake. Check in advance whether these activities are currently available.
Options in the wider Goldap destination
The wider Goldap destination also provides a regional setting for planning your trip. The kayaking route on the Gołdapa runs from Lake Gołdap via the town of Gołdap, then through Juchnajcie, Boćwinka, Sapałówka and Banie Mazurskie to Zakałcze and Mieduniszki. The route as described links several named sections in a single trip; the sequence of places helps you understand it as a multi-part excursion.
The ski slopes on Piękna Góra are covered with artificial snow, groomed and illuminated after dark. There is also a snow park for snowboarders. In summer, a high ropes course operates on the Zajazd side. As this is a seasonal activity, check whether it is currently available before making plans.
The wider Goldap destination also includes a one-hectare intergenerational playground in Gołdap, next to the graduation towers. Mini-golf courses are located around the graduation towers and on the shore of Lake Gołdap. Clubs can be borrowed free of charge at the Pijalnia Wód Mineralnych i Leczniczych; check the current availability of equipment on site.
