Church history across several periods

The church in Straduny was probably once part of a castle complex built by the Teutonic Knights in the 15th century. The first church on this site burned down in September 1736 during a devastating village fire. The history of the church site therefore includes a possible medieval connection and the precisely dated loss of the first church building. The connection to the castle complex remains probable; the fire is a separate, precisely dated event.

The church was originally Catholic and became a Roman Catholic church around 1946. On 3 May 1946, Józef Kącki CRL consecrated it under the title Matki Bożej Królowej Polski. The change of denomination is dated only approximately to 1946, while the consecration has a specific date. These two dates refer to different events and add distinct milestones to the history of the church site.

Watermill and lake: two connections to water

The historic watermill in Straduny stands on an artificial impoundment of the Ełk. The former mill houses a hydroelectric power station.
