Church and History in Wzdół
The brick church is distinguished by its groin vaults, a chapel, a porch and a tower visible from afar. Its furnishings include works from several centuries: the main altar features a painting from 1696 depicting the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Other highlights include a 17th-century altar of Our Lady of the Scapular and an early 18th-century painting of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa. A Rococo statue of St John of Nepomuk dates from 1768. The late Renaissance baptismal font, bearing a non-Polish coat of arms, is another distinctive feature of the church.
The church’s more recent building history includes an extension between 1939 and 1945. The organ was built in 1939 by Stanisław Jagodziński of Garbatka and is still used in the liturgy. The Góra Barbarka–Kamień Michniowski hiking trail starts at the St Barbara Chapel and follows woodland paths to the Kamień Michniowski Nature Reserve. It passes through Wzdół Rządowy, in the Pasmo Sieradowickie range and the Sieradowicki Landscape Park. The trail is listed as 1.79 kilometres long, with a walking time of 35 minutes.
