Village Life in Tokarnia
The park aims to reconstruct typical village settlement patterns from four subregions of the Kielecczyzna: the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, the Sandomierz Upland and the Nida Basin. Its focus is therefore not only on individual historic structures, but also on depicting village settlement patterns in these subregions. These areas give the concept a clear regional scope and distinguish the park’s focus from that of a castle, monastery or literature museum.

Religious History and a Medieval Fortress
The Święty Krzyż Monastery is an active religious institution. It was once home to the Benedictine Order; today, it is inhabited by Missionaries of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The site thus brings together a history of a former religious order and present-day religious use. This offers a different historical perspective from the open-air museum’s architecture or a castle’s military history.
Chęciny Royal Castle represents the region’s medieval heritage: at the time, it was one of the Crown’s most important fortresses. Its historical significance provides a clear point of reference when choosing between military history, religious heritage and Tokarnia’s rural architectural styles.
Henryk Sienkiewicz in Oblęgorek
In Oblęgorek, the Henryk Sienkiewicz Manor House adds literature and biography to the region’s historic attractions. Poland’s first museum dedicated to the life and work of the Nobel laureate opened there in 1958. In the historic ground-floor rooms, his apartment has been reconstructed with a study, living room, dining room, smoking room and bedroom. These rooms give the literary focus a tangible setting for living and working. This attraction is thus distinct from both Tokarnia’s extensive village architecture and the medieval fortress in Chęciny.
