Local History and Sites of Remembrance

From 1748 to 1946, Bukowsko was a town and belonged, among others, to the Ossoliński family. There is also a Jewish cemetery in the village. These historical connections can be complemented with a look at the trails: the educational trail “In the Footsteps of Three Nations – Poles, Ruthenians and Jews in the Municipality of Bukowsko” leads from Bukowsko to Kamienne. Kamienne is a historic settlement that no longer exists; the trail’s name refers to Poles, Ruthenians and Jews in the area of the Municipality of Bukowsko.

Murals are also part of the village’s character. They can be seen mainly at bus stops and also in the village centre. One mural is on the wall of the Dom Kultury (Cultural Centre); further murals were created in 2023. If you are interested in artistic details in public spaces, you can include these motifs in your visit rather than planning your stay around a hike alone.

The yellow-and-red-marked “Trail of Historic Settlements” is 15 kilometres long. It starts at the Caritas retreat centre in Zboiska and ends in Bukowsko; you can also start in Bukowsko and complete it in stages. This gives you flexibility when planning your day, without having to tackle the entire route in one day. Before setting out, check local information on the trail’s current condition.

Another option in the Municipality of Bukowsko is the “Carpathian Beech Forest” trail to Bukowica. It can be accessed from Wola Piotrowa; the municipality lists hiking and cycling as activities. This offers different approaches to planning: a 15-kilometre trail that can be completed in stages, and a route suitable for both hiking and cycling. The educational trail to Kamienne, meanwhile, connects Bukowsko with a historic settlement that no longer exists today.
