Lemko History in the Wooden Church

The present-day church was built towards the end of the 18th century, when the Lemkos professed the Greek Catholic faith. After the Lemkos were expelled, the church building fell into disuse. In the 1980s, the Roman Catholic Church in Iwla took over the building and had it extensively renovated. Today, the former Greek Catholic church is a Roman Catholic filial church of the parish of Iwla. This sequence gives the building particular cultural and historical significance: its origins belong to the history of the Lemko faith, while its later use belongs to a further phase in the history of the place.
