Miedźno: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The present-day Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Miedźno was built between 1872 and 1877 on the site of a burned-down wooden church. Culture

The cemetery chapel in Miedźno was built around 1840 by the Miączyński family. Voivode Miączyński and his family are buried in its crypt. During renovation work, the polychromes created in the late 19th century were discovered in the church and restored by Professor Jerzy Nowosielski.

Around 1900, Miedźno had a Chapel of Saint John. The original chapel was destroyed in 1939 and replaced by a new building in 1945. A historic linear rural settlement structure, known as a “rzędówka”, has also been preserved; it extends from the cemetery to the intersection with the road to Borowa.

The church has a 19th-century Neo-Gothic high altar with a Baroque painting of Saint Catherine of Alexandria from the first half of the 18th century. Historic furnishings include a monstrance dating from 1620 and a tower clock. Miedźno’s cultural heritage also includes a mill dating from 1952–1953, described as a preserved example of combined wooden and solid construction.

In nearby Mokra stands the wooden Church of Saints Simon and Jude, built in 1708. It has a shingle-covered roof and a small Baroque roof turret.

History

A mass grave of insurgents is located in the cemetery in Miedźno. The historic cemetery also contains a symbolic tomb commemorating people murdered during the occupation and a granite plaque bearing the names of 135 murdered inhabitants of Miedźno, Mokra, Kołaczkowice, Wapienniki and Izbiska. The cremation burial ground near Mokra lies in a forest beside a road and is accessible year-round.

Landscape

The Ostrowy nad Okszą Reservoir has a recreational area with covered barbecue shelters, benches and tables, a beach volleyball court, a covered stage, a water sports equipment storage facility and sanitary facilities. The recreational area also includes a wooden children’s playground.

The Oksza Valley above and below Ostrowy is surrounded by pine forests; the Liswarta River is associated with opportunities for fishing and mushroom picking. The Folga na Zakolu cycle path is a recreational route connecting six municipalities, including Miedźno.
