Holiday apartment in Danków: fortress, Liswarta and sacred history

Danków combines a fortress complex, the riverside landscape of the Liswarta, and several sacred landmarks. The ruins of the fortress lie on the left bank of the river in the eastern part of the village. The surviving parts of Danków Fortress include the ruins of the Brama Krzepicka gate and a fragment of the wall of the so-called Dom Kasztelanowej. The bastion-like fortifications also shape the appearance of the complex. Danków Fortress is the only complex of its kind in Poland. This provides several specific historical points of reference for visitors: the gate, wall fragment, and type of fortification draw attention to different surviving parts of the complex.

Church and sacred history

The Church of Saint Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, is a masonry building erected between 1641 and 1675. Its original wooden church already existed in the thirteenth century. A Way of the Cross was created on the fortress ramparts around the church. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Danków is a sacred monument; the image of Our Lady was crowned on 25 May 2002. Thus, the sacred focus combines medieval origins, a later masonry building, and places of religious remembrance.

Bishops, princes and the fallen

The history of Danków is also visible in specific places. In 1238 and 1267, bishops gathered in Danków for assemblies. An obelisk commemorates a meeting of Piast princes. Danków is also home to a collective war grave for Konstanty Kolada, Ignacy Matejas, Stefan Szmaj and Zawadziński, as well as five unknown soldiers of the 83rd Polesie Rifle Regiment from Kobryn who fell on 1 September 1939.

The Liswarta as a kayaking route

The Liswarta also offers an active perspective in Danków. The marked Liswarta kayaking route runs through the village. The Danków–Zawady section includes two portages and numerous rapids. This specific route profile is particularly relevant for a stay focused on the water.
