Lakes, water sports and unusual nature experiences shape Dąbrowa Górnicza, as do traces of its mining and regional history. Within the city’s administrative boundaries lies a 14.5-hectare section of the Błędów Desert, an attraction for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The Pojezierze Dąbrowskie is also part of the city’s character: the group comprises four Pogoria Lakes, which are used for tourism and recreation.
The Pogoria Lakes: nature, trails and water sports
Each of the four lakes is surrounded by marked trails and cycling routes that are also suitable for younger children. This makes it possible to combine time by the water with exercise. Pogoria II is also home to numerous fish, bird and plant species. A convenient path leads from ul. Zakładowa to a floating footbridge. It serves as a viewpoint for walkers and nature watchers.
At Pogoria III, activities on the water take centre stage: the lake is suitable for sailing and windsurfing. There are several sailing and water sports clubs at the Pogoria reservoirs, including Fregata, Hutnik and Jacht Klub Pogoria III. These clubs organise training sessions, courses and training camps. Diving is another experience described here: divers descend to a depth of 17 metres in Pogoria III, while the lake’s average depth is 6 metres.

Marked routes with a variety of scenery
The green-marked Szlak XXV-lecia leads to the waters of Pogoria II and Pogoria III and runs for approximately 18.5 kilometres within Dąbrowa Górnicza. The red-marked Szlak Metalurgów is 13 kilometres long and also runs through the city. If you would like to include a longer route in your plans, the Szlak Szwajcarii Zagłębiowskiej covers a total of 35.5 kilometres; 15.5 kilometres of it run within Dąbrowa Górnicza.
Along the Szlak Szwajcarii Zagłębiowskiej are pine forests, historic churches and clear streams. The route offers far-reaching views of the Błędów Desert and the Pasmo Smoleńsko-Niegowonickie, as well as views of the meanders of the Biała Przemsza. The yellow-marked Szlak Zamonitu is 95 kilometres long and passes through Dąbrowa Górnicza Gołonóg, as well as Ząbkowice, Łęka, Niegowonice, Centuria, Podzamcze, Giebło, Mokrus, Siamoszyce and Poraj. For a different starting point, the 28.5-kilometre Szlak Pustynny PTTK begins at the Baza Biwakowo-Campingowo-Rekreacyjna.
The wetland at the Baza Biwakowo-Campingowo-Rekreacyjna also has a network of boardwalks. You can use them to walk to places that would otherwise be inaccessible. So, in addition to longer routes, you can also choose a nature outing through a wetland.
Mining history and regional culture
The Kopalnia Ćwiczebna brings the practical training of mid-level mining personnel to life. You can see training stations for mechanics and electrical engineering, as well as structures used to support underground workings. A reservation is required to visit. Pre-booked tickets must be collected at the museum ticket office 15 minutes before the scheduled entry time. Children over six may visit the facility when accompanied by an adult.
At the Muzeum Miejskie Sztygarka, a reconstruction depicts part of a production settlement where silver and lead were smelted. The ethnographic section is devoted to local folk culture: historic home furnishings, traditional costumes, agricultural equipment and folk art offer insights into different aspects of everyday life and tradition.
Architecture is also part of the cultural offering. In 1979, the Pałac Kultury Zagłębia was entered in Poland’s National Heritage Register as an outstanding example of Socialist Realist architecture; you must register in advance to visit. The Church of Our Lady of the Angels was designed in the Neo-Gothic style by Józef Pomian-Pomianowski of Warsaw.
