Okuniowiec brings together different scales of trip planning: a landscaped public space, local pedestrian and road infrastructure, and a 47 km route that passes through the village. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, an initial question is whether Okuniowiec itself will be the focus of your explorations or whether the village is mainly a stop on a longer tour. The local projects and the route offer two concrete perspectives on planning your trip.

A route through several places

The 47 km “Nad Szeszupę” route runs from Suwałki railway station via Lake Okuniowiec and through the village of Okuniowiec. It then passes the buildings in Osinki and the settlement of Studzieniczne before reaching the “Cmentarzysko Jaćwingów” nature reserve. The tour therefore includes several named places and ends at a nature reserve. If you include this route in your trip plans, check the current condition of the path and access before setting out.

A landscaped public space

On July 23, 2024, Gmina Suwałki accepted the landscaping of the public space in Okuniowiec. The project included a leisure pavilion with four table-and-bench sets. A solar lamp to illuminate the area in front of the pavilion completes the amenities. For choosing where to go, this is a different focus from the route through several places: here, it’s about a landscaped area within Okuniowiec; the route, by contrast, passes through several places.

Roads and footpaths in the village

A road improvement project completed in 2022 concerns the road from county road No. 1153B to municipal road No. 102016B in Okuniowiec. A gravel road was converted into a paved road with a bituminous surface. It is about 1,000 m long and 5 m wide. The amenities include a pedestrian and cycle path and street lighting. The length given refers to the road itself. This clearly distinguishes the improvement from the 47 km route.

Another footpath was built along road No. 102016B and a road within the village. It is about 1,216.54 m long and 2.20 m wide, with a concrete block surface. The municipality accepted the project on November 28, 2024. Its length, width and surface give this footpath its own scale within the local infrastructure. Together with the road improvement, it shows that the information about Okuniowiec covers both individual construction projects and a longer route.

Choosing the right place for your vacation

When looking for a holiday rental in Okuniowiec, you can first decide what matters most: if you’d like to include the “Nad Szeszupę” route in your trip, it passes through the village and continues on to the places mentioned. If you’re more interested in the village itself and its infrastructure, the leisure pavilion and the road and footpath projects described here offer a different point of reference. Then choose a specific accommodation based on its location and your planned daily activities.
