Łomża offers different ways to experience culture and activities: at the Muzeum Północno-Mazowieckie, you can explore city and regional history; an audio guide takes you past historic landmarks and architectural monuments on two routes of different lengths; and a cycling loop is 49.5 km long. When choosing your holiday destination, you can consider whether you would prefer to discover exhibitions and architecture or also plan a longer bike ride. For families and other travel groups, this makes it easy to discuss which of these interests should shape your stay before looking for a holiday apartment in Łomża.

Museum: Amber and regional history

The Muzeum Północno-Mazowieckie features five permanent exhibitions in its main building. The latest version of the amber exhibition focuses on the material and how it is worked: on display are raw amber, traditional tools for finding and working amber, and historical and contemporary amber objects. Those interested in craftsmanship will find more than finished pieces here; the exhibition also includes tools and the raw material itself. The exhibits range in date from historical to contemporary objects.

Another exhibition covers the period from the first people on the Narew in the 9th century BC to the Second World War. Coins, vessels, weapons, tools, jewellery and historical photographs are among the objects on display. This variety offers different points of interest: you can focus on everyday objects, jewellery, historical images or weapons as you explore the exhibition. In addition, the museum has one of the most extensive collections of kerosene lamps in Poland. The lamps date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum therefore offers both a distinctive collection and exhibitions on amber and regional history.

The cathedral and the city’s history

The parish church in Łomża is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and John the Baptist and has been a cathedral since 1925. Its architecture combines different features: it is an oriented Late Gothic church with Baroque gable façades. If you enjoy exploring architectural history and religious architecture when you travel, you can make this a focus of its own alongside the museum exhibits. The “Zasmakuj w Łomży” audio guide offers another way to explore the city. Both its short and long routes start at the Old Market Square and lead through the city streets to historic landmarks and architectural monuments. The routes differ in length, giving you a choice without requiring you to follow the same tour.

A longer bike ride as a focus of its own

For an active outing, there is a 49.5 km cycling loop around the Łomża Landscape Park of the Narew Valley. It starts and ends at the car park by Port Łomża. Its length gives you a concrete reference point for planning your day: consider in advance whether a loop of this distance suits your plans. The museum, church architecture, audio guide and bike ride are different ways to discover Łomża; when planning your holiday, you can choose the focus that best suits your travel group. A holiday apartment in Łomża is an option to consider if you are planning to visit these destinations during your stay in the city.
