Trails, Views and Time in the Green Surroundings
The Główny Szlak Sudecki im. Mieczysława Orłowicza was extended to Głuchołazy only in 2000. There, it joins the existing red trail. This runs from Głuchołazy across the Góry Parkowe massif and Biskupia Kopa to Prudnik. If you are interested in hiking, you can include this route as a focus of your trip planning.
Czarcia Ambona is a viewpoint above a rocky escarpment that marks the northern end of the Biała Głuchołaska valley. For a different kind of outdoor experience, there is Park Zdrojowy: it forms the central part of the former spa town of Głuchołazy and has walking trails and rest areas. There is also access to a stream where you can wade. This gives you a choice of different starting points for planning: a viewpoint, a longer trail and a park with places to rest.
Finding Your Way Around the Old Town
The tourist information centre is in the heart of the old town, next to Wieża Bramy Górnej. The tower is the most striking surviving part of the medieval fortification walls. The centre provides local and regional train and bus timetables, as well as tourist information about the Góry Opawskie. History in the Streets and Squares
The Głuchołaska Izba Pamięci Orderu Uśmiechu has been in Głuchołazy since 2023. Its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of the Order and the people who have received it. Remains of medieval defensive walls can be seen on M. Curie-Skłodowskiej Street. These places offer different points of reference for the town’s history: an exhibition about the Order and surviving traces of the fortifications.
A model of Głuchołazy as it appeared in the 17th century stands in the market square; it was installed to mark the town’s 800th anniversary. The Głuchołaska Lipa na Rynku also stands in the market square. It was probably planted after 1648 as a peace tree to commemorate the end of the Thirty Years’ War. These two features bring different periods of local history into view: the townscape depicted as it was in the 17th century and the probable planting after the peace settlement.
The parish church of St. Lawrence is another architectural highlight: its interior is richly Baroque, and its Neo-Baroque high altar features a large statue of St. Lawrence. There are also six life-size sculptures of gold miners along a path in Głuchołazy. They depict various gold-mining activities, giving the path this distinctive theme.
