Cycling routes with different highlights

The red cycling route “Gościnne zagrody” is 40 kilometres long and passes through Kluczbork, Bąków, Brzezinka, Biadacz, Maciejów and Łowkowice. The yellow route “Szlakiem dawnego rzemiosła i pomników przyrody” covers 44 kilometres and the places Kluczbork, Kuniów, Bażany, Borkowice, Zameczek, Bogacica, Smardy, Krzywizna and Łowkowice. The route names alone suggest different highlights: one points to hospitable farms, the other to traditional crafts and natural monuments.

Both routes pass through several places, but differ in length and the stops listed. This can help with your travel planning if you want a longer bike ride to be an important part of your stay. There are five cycling routes in the municipality of Kluczbork in total. The two routes described here are therefore examples from a wider range, not the complete selection.

Beekeeping at the Jan Dzierżon Museum

The Jan Dzierżon Museum in Kluczbork is housed in a former castle listed in the register of monuments. Its permanent exhibition, “Pszczelarstwo dawne i nowe”, traces the history of beekeeping from its earliest days to the present. A particular focus is the work and role of Reverend Dzierżon. The exhibition thus takes visitors from the long history of beekeeping to a person whose work and significance are explicitly at its centre.

There is also an outdoor exhibition devoted to beekeeping, showing the development of beehives from hollowed-out log hives to box hives. The museum’s regular workshop programme also includes courses on making candles from wax foundation sheets. They are intended for children, young people and adults. For families who would like to explore a topic together, the museum offers both exhibitions and workshops for all ages.

Cultural trails and historic sites in the municipality

The town trail showcasing Kluczbork’s attractions opened on 13 June 2021. Another cultural and heritage trail is the wooden churches trail in the municipality of Kluczbork. Maciejów is the first stop on the wooden churches trail through Kluczbork County. The wooden church in Maciejów was mentioned as early as 1446—this date refers to its mention, not necessarily the time when the building was constructed.

Architecture and art are also highlights in Maciejów: the palace there is a Neoclassical building designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans and dated to around 1790. The palace contains a series of Romantic wall paintings from around the turn of the 19th century. If you are interested in historic architecture, these sites complement the museum and town attractions with examples from the municipality.

Stobrawski Landscape Park is also part of the municipality’s character: it extends into the municipality of Kluczbork from the direction of Bogacica. Kluczbork town park, meanwhile, was entered into the register of monuments in 1976. Together, these details show two different connections to the area: the landscape park extending into the municipality, and a town park with its own heritage designation.

Kluczbork is an important railway junction with connections on the Katowice–Wrocław and Katowice–Poznań routes, as well as towards Częstochowa and Opole.
