Castle and musical history

Szydłowiec Castle stands in the floodplain of the Korzeniówka River, on an artificially raised island. Between 1470 and 1480, Stanisław Szydłowiecki built a brick castle there. Its chambers house the exhibitions of the Muzeum Ludowych Instrumentów Muzycznych, including three permanent exhibitions. Founded in 1968, the museum is considered the world’s first independent museum dedicated to folk musical instruments. The castle complex thus brings together historic architecture and a clearly defined musical theme.

The Eksperymentarium Dźwięku offers another way to engage with sound. It is located in one of the castle’s oldest chambers.
