Otwock Wielki: Palace, Frescoes and Music
Accommodation in Otwock Wielki
Otwock Wielki offers a special reason to take time for architecture, historic interiors and music: the three-storey late Baroque palace is the centrepiece of a palace and park complex. Those interested in culture will find several different perspectives on the history of the place – from its surviving wall paintings to personal mementos and a concert grand piano.

A late Baroque palace with a rich history
The palace was designed by Tylman z Gameren and built between 1693 and 1703. Its three storeys and late Baroque design give the building a distinctive architectural character. The history of the guests received in Otwock Wielki by the Bieliński couple is also part of the place’s story: they included King Jan III Sobieski and Augustus II the Strong.
Frescoes dating from around the turn of the 18th century have survived in the former private rooms. Their subjects range from ancient ruins and landscapes to scenes on a busy coast with ships, goods and people. This variety is what makes the paintings interesting: they show different visual worlds rather than leading visitors through the rooms with a single theme.
Historic rooms and personal mementos
The Muzeum Wnętrz displays historic furniture and other furnishings dating from the Baroque to the Biedermeier period, old musical instruments, and mementos of Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The collection thus brings together objects from different eras alongside personal keepsakes. The palace is open to everyone.
One particularly tangible example of the connection to music is the concert grand piano in the ballroom of the Muzeum Wnętrz. The instrument was made by Steinway and Sons in 1925 and belonged to Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Two Rococo armchairs offer a different accent: their upholstery depicts scenes from the fables of Jean La Fontaine. Music, literature and historic furnishings can thus be discovered through individual objects, without reducing the rooms to the story of a single collection.
Music in the park and at the palace café
Every year, free classical music concerts are held in the park of the palace and park complex on Sundays in July and August at 5 pm. If you would like to combine your visit with a concert, check the specific dates in advance. The summer programme gives your stay a musical focus and complements the historic interiors with an experience in the park.
The palace café is also part of the visitor experience: cakes are served there, and visitors can view works by artists from the region. This makes it possible to put together a cultural programme from different elements – architecture and collections, music in the park, and art and cake in the café. The seasonal concert dates are the programme’s clearly defined highlight.
