In Łagów, two lakes, historic buildings and trails through natural and cultural landscapes come together. At the centre is the Zamek Joannitów, on a narrow strip of land between two lakes. The Ciecz Lake, also known as Lake Trześniowskie, and Lake Łagowskie are connected there by a shallow canal. This distinctive layout shapes the town and gives your trip several possible focal points: history, walking or cycling tours, and experiences by the water.

Lakes, Castle and Historic Buildings

The 35-metre-high tower of the Zamek Joannitów offers panoramic views of Łagów. The Brama Marchijska also tells the story of the town: it is a valuable medieval element of the town’s fortifications. It was built in the 16th century on the site of a presumed wooden predecessor dating from the 14th century. Another historic building is the Kościół św. Jana Chrzciciela. This stone-and-brick building in the Neoclassical style dates from 1725 and was remodelled in 1877.

Another viewpoint is the railway viaduct on Mostowa Street, built in 1906. It is 40 metres long and around 25 metres high. Stairs lead to the top, where panoramic views stretch across Łagów. The castle and viaduct thus offer different perspectives on the town, while the Brama Marchijska and the church provide further points of interest for a cultural and historical walk.

Trails by Length and Focus

For a short outing, the Sokola Góra nature and cultural history trail is one option: it is about 1.5 kilometres long, takes around 40 minutes and is right next to the Lower Castle area. The easy Jezioro Łagowskie landscape trail is about 9 kilometres long, with an estimated duration of around two and a half hours. These details can help you fit shorter and longer trail ideas into your day’s plans.

Other trails offer longer routes and different destinations. The Pawski Ług nature trail runs for 12 kilometres from the Lower Castle area to a peat bog reserve and back along the western shore of Lake Łagowskie. The Skansen Jemiołów nature and cultural history trail runs for 13 kilometres from the Lower Castle area to the open-air agricultural museum in Jemiołów. The Jezioro Czarne trail is about 12 kilometres long and takes around three hours. This gives you a choice between a shorter walk and outings to destinations farther afield, depending on the distance you have in mind.

There are also named nature and landscape routes for cycling. The 18-kilometre Bracikowo route runs from Łagów through Jemiołów and Bracikowo and back to Łagów. The Buczyna route is 22 kilometres long and runs via Sieniawa, Buczyna, Bucze and Żelechów back to the starting point. In the wider region, the Łagowskie Stowarzyszenie Turystyki Rowerowej i Pieszej has designated four cycling routes and six walking trails through the landscape of the Łagowsko-Sulęciński Park; they vary in length and difficulty.

Water and Events

You can enjoy views of Lake Łagowskie from a boat, kayak or pedal boat. If you would like to include culture and events in your trip, there are two different points of interest: Lubuskie Lato Filmowe has been held in Łagów every year since 1969. Jarmark Smakosza is also one of the regular events. Together with the historic buildings and trails, these themes offer different ways to tailor your stay to your personal interests.

If you would like to compare different destinations, you can find more places here: Rokitnica, Zawisze, Schwiebus, Mostki, Lubrza, Niedźwiedź, Zbąszynek and Szczaniec.
