Culture between the Old Market Square and the Concert Hall

On the Old Market Square, plaques set into the pavement commemorate artists and cultural figures from Gorzów Wielkopolski who have passed away: the Gorzów Aleja Gwiazd also makes the square a place of remembrance. Also on the Old Market Square, next to the cathedral, stands the fountain named after Hermann Paucksch. The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary is a red-brick building dating from the 13th century. Together, the square, fountain and church provide specific places to visit for a look at the city’s cultural history.

Another historic building is the white Spichlerz, a three-storey half-timbered building dating from 1723. Art lovers can find exhibitions of contemporary art and an art-house cinema at the Miejski Ośrodek Sztuki. The institution’s collection includes 31 works by Władysław Hasior; it is the second-largest collection of his works in Poland. Filharmonia Gorzowska is the city’s newest cultural institution. Its modern building has a glass façade, and the concert hall’s acoustics are considered among the best in Poland.

Theater history is also part of the city’s cultural identity: for several decades, the theater in Gorzów Wielkopolski organized the Gorzów Theatre Meetings. Parks with their own character

The parks differ considerably in what they offer. Park Kopernika lies on the site of a former municipal cemetery; an Evangelical chapel dating from the late 19th century still stands there. Park Czechówek is characterized by a woodland setting and a pond fed by spring water. Park Siemiradzkiego is the oldest park in Gorzów Wielkopolski and has an amphitheater and a viewpoint.

Park Górczyński offers walking paths, children’s playgrounds, a street workout zone and a sand volleyball court. If you want to include a playground in an outing together, this is a specific place to visit; it also offers opportunities for exercise and volleyball. Park Słowiański has footpaths, boules, a high ropes course and a downhill track. The options range from walks and boules to climbing and downhill riding, and not every activity needs to be part of the same outing.

Trails and experiences on the Warta River

Since 2019, the Szlak Stolic in Gorzów Wielkopolski has included a section of more than 700 meters for cyclists and pedestrians. It connects to the eastern part of the boulevard and runs as far as the Lubuski Bridge. This specific stretch can therefore be included in plans for a walk or bike ride. A municipal tourism map also shows hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails in Gorzów Wielkopolski and neighboring municipalities.

Getting your bearings

The tourist information office is located on the Old Market Square in the city center. There you can get city maps and guidebooks, information about cultural events and promotional materials about the region; the office also helps with accommodation reservations. From May to September, it is open Monday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. From October to April, it is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
