The Renaissance market square lies at the heart of Tomaszów Lubelski’s historic street plan. The street plan has been preserved to this day, except for the western section, which was destroyed during the last war. The history of the salt market is also part of the town’s story: it was established because the town had been granted a salt-storage privilege. Those exploring the town’s development will find here two distinct clues to its history—the layout of the market and the economic significance of the salt privilege.

On Kościelna Street stands a Baroque wooden church, built in 1627 and described as Tomaszów Lubelski’s most valuable historic monument. Distinct traces of former defensive walls and the town moat remain behind it. An Orthodox church was built near the market square at the end of the 19th century. The various buildings and remains represent different chapters in the town’s history. A monument at the southeast corner of the market square commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May; another monument in front of the town hall commemorates the battles for Tomaszów Lubelski.
