Church of the Holy Name: Late Gothic origins, Late Baroque appearance

The parish Church of the Holy Name has Late Gothic origins. Its present appearance took shape between 1765 and 1768 and is marked by the Late Baroque style. The two dates offer different perspectives: the church’s origins reach further back, while its present form dates to the 18th century.

Its furnishings include an organ façade, a pulpit and 18th-century oil paintings. The high altar features a Madonna and Child and an antependium dating from 1776. There is also a Rococo altarpiece frame, Baroque side altars and a stone baptismal font from the 17th century. The sail vault is another of the architectural details described. The church thus offers several specific points of interest for anyone interested in religious architecture and historic furnishings.

Grudza is home to about 50 historic houses, including houses built in the regionally characteristic przysłupowy style. The ruins of a windmill are another trace of the village’s history. Before the Second World War, the mill served as a viewing tower.
