Wolimierz: Village Culture and Discoveries
Accommodation in Wolimierz
Wolimierz lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, a few kilometres north of Świeradów-Zdrój. The village is known for its hospitality and cultural and community activities. Traditional houses, a former railway station, and a discovery game covering various themes give you different ways to shape your stay: you can focus on architecture and history, or explore the cultural route and the summer events at Stacja Wolimierz.
Four themed routes, plenty of possible points of focus
The Tajemnice Wolimierza discovery game is divided into four themed routes: Natura, Historia, Kultura, and Społeczność. You can explore the routes individually or combine them as you wish. This lets you choose what to focus on based on the themes that interest you most, rather than covering every area in a set order. The Wolimierskie Tajemnice discovery game comprises a total of 20 stations to discover and visit.
For culture enthusiasts, the Kultura route of Tajemnice Wolimierza offers prepared activities such as films, galleries, and studios. Completing the full route can take up to five hours. This is a useful guide when deciding how much time to set aside for this part of your explorations. Content and duration may change; check the latest information if you plan to follow the route.
Traditional houses and railway station history
The surviving old, traditional houses are among Wolimierz’s biggest attractions. Renovated and newly built houses also retain traditional architectural features. As you explore the village, you can therefore look out both for older buildings and for houses that carry on traditional features. The condition of individual buildings may change.
The listed building of the former Wolimierz railway station is part of the village’s history: in 1993, the Fundacja na Rzecz Wspierania Kultur Alternatywnych i Ekologicznych saved it from demolition. A disused railway station building in Wolimierz was also converted into a gallery. This history offers two distinct ways to view the village: through its architecture and through its cultural initiatives.
Cultural life at Stacja Wolimierz
Every summer, artists, craftspeople, organic farmers, and people from different backgrounds meet at Stacja Wolimierz. The three-day programme includes workshops, talks, performances, and concerts. If you are planning a trip around these events, check the dates and the current programme in advance.
The Jarmark Wiejski Izerski, a market for handicrafts and healthy food, takes place in the meadow at Stacja Wolimierz. Here too, it is worth checking the latest programme information if you plan to visit the market.
Teatr Kliniki Lalek, which relocated from Wrocław, is at the heart of the cultural community that has developed in Wolimierz since the early 1990s. If you would like to attend a performance, check the current programme separately. In 2013, Wolimierz received a special award for the best spatial and cultural organisation of a village.
Tailor your stay to your interests
When choosing a destination and holiday apartment, the themes of your stay can help you decide: Wolimierz offers opportunities to explore culture, history, architecture, and nature. The routes can be followed individually or combined, while the complete cultural route can take up to five hours. So consider which themes you would like to explore and how much time you want to set aside.
